Monday Quote: On Writing Books

When I was working on my debut book, someone told me to write one I wanted to read. That was great advice. I thought back to my early postpartum days, when I longed for a book with perspectives from other moms who had battled postpartum depression. I needed to hear their stories. Stories are solace.

I never found that book. I ended up writing it.

Now, as I try my hand at fiction, the same rule applies. Larry Brooks reminded me of it in his book, Story Engineering. He encourages authors to write as a reflection of who we are and what interests us:
